Southport stabbings and riots in the UK: Comments from a security perspective – by Maria Chr. Alvanou

On Monday 29th of July a knife rampage described as a “horror movie” took place in Southport, UK, during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class resulting in three little girls stabbed to death and eight others injured. The perpetrator was a 17-year-old boy arrested at the scene, and his motivations seem irrelevant to terrorism.

Terrorist attack first aid training for citizen: part of a well-rounded counter-terrorism strategy – by Maria Alvanou

UK newspaper ‘Independent’ has revealed in an exclusive article a UK program designed to give people knowledge on how to provide first aid to victims of terror operations[1]. The need for such a program was already a topic for discussion in the British society[2] and even the British Red Cross had issued some guidelines for citizens prior, during and after a terrorist attack[3]. Londra: veicolo sulla folla davanti alla Moschea di Finsbury Park – by Marco Lombardi

Poco dopo la mezzanotte, un van è finito sulle persone che stavano uscendo dalla moschea di Finsbury Park dopo la preghiera, in Seven Sisters Road. La Polizia ha dichiarato che stanno rispondendo a un “major incident” con “a number of casualties being worked on at the scene“. Attualmente si parla di una dozzina di feriti di cui tre in condizioni critiche. Manchester and London attacks: remarks on the characteristics of the different methods used – by Maria Chr. Alvanou

After the recent Manchester and London attacks, a discussion has begun about the effectiveness of the different methods employed by Daesh. In the first case the hit was perpetrated by a suicide attacker and in the second case by 3 perpetrators using car ramming plus knife stabbing.
